The Convent of St. Mary Magdalene, Jerusalem . The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is situated on the slope of the Mount of Olives in the Garden of Gethsemane and is one of the most easily recognizable landmarks of Jerusalem . (...) It was built as a memorial to Empress Maria Alexandrovna by her son the Russian Czar Alexander III and his brothers. Grand-Duke Sergei Alexandrovich , brother of Alexander III, and his wife Grand-Duchess Elizabeth (Princess Elizabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt) , grand-daughter of Queen Victoria and sister of the last Empress of Russia, presided at the consecration of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in 1888 as representatives of the Emperor. The Grand-Duchess took a deep personal interest in the Church and commissioned the well-known Russian artist Sergei Ivanov (1864-1910) to paint the large imposing murals depicting the life of Saint Mary Magdalene which were brought to Jerusalem for the consecration and hang in the Church today. (...) Grand-Duchess Elizabeth, widowed by an assassin's attack on her husband in 1905, became a nun and founded a convent devoted to nursing and charitable work in Moscow. After the revolution, in 1918, the Grand-Duchess together with her companion Sister Barbara and several members of the Russian Imperial Family were thrown into a mine shaft by the bolsheviks and left to die . Her remains and those of Sister Barbara eventually were brought to Jerusalem. In 1920, they were laid to rest, as the Grand-Duchess wished, in a crypt below the Saint Mary Magdalene Church. They were canonized as Martyr Saints in 1981 and at this time their relics were moved into the main section of the Church where they rest today in marble sarcophagi.

Via Dolorosa: Latin for "Way of Grief", "Way of Sorrow" , "Way of Suffering" or simply "Painful Way"; is a street within The Old City of Jerusalem , believed to be the path that walked on the way to His Crucifixion . The winding route from the Antonia Fortress west to the Church of The Holy Sepulchre - a distance of about 600 metres (2,000 feet) - is a celebrated place of Christian pilgrimage . The current route has been established since the 18th century, replacing various earlier versions.

Jerusalem. Located east of the Jordan River in the Judean Hills is the capital of Israel and its largest city in terms of both geographical area and population size . A Holy City for three of the world's major religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam has a long and tumultuous history, during which it has been home to people of many nationalities and faiths. Reunified since 1967 is really three cities in one: the historic walled Old City that is home to its Holy Places, the modern urban center to the west, and the Arab district to the east. In addition to being Israel's spiritual, political, and administrative capital is also a leader in education and health care, and its religious, historical, and cultural attractions make it the country's premier tourist destination.

Jerusalem, The Ophel is north of the City and south of Mount MORIAH. The Ophel is part of the Eastern Hill that sits between the City of David and the Temple Mount. The word "ophel" means "swell or rise" and refers to a higher part of the landscape. The Jebusites built their citadel there, as did David, who also added a lot more fortification to this northern part of his city. The Ophel is mentioned in 2 Chronicles 27 and 33.

Ashkenazi Jews. Ashkenazi Jews, romanized: Yehudei Ashkenaz, lit. 'Jews of Germania'; romanized: Ashkenazishe Yidn) , also known as Ashkenazic Jews or Ashkenazim, are a Jewish diaspora population who were initially dispersed from their origins in the Levant by the Holy Roman Empire around the end of the first millennium CE. Their traditional diaspora language is Yiddish (a West Germanic language with Jewish and Slavic linguistic elements, which uses the Hebrew alphabet), which developed during the Middle Ages after they had moved from Germany and France into Northern Europe and Eastern Europe. For centuries , Ashkenazim in Europe used Hebrew only as a sacred language until the revival of Hebrew as a common language in 20th-century Israel. Throughout their numerous centuries living in Europe, Ashkenazim have made many important contributions to its philosophy, scholarship, literature, art, music , and science. The rabbinical term Ashkenazi refers to diaspora Jews who established communities along the Rhine in western Germany and northern France during the Middle Ages.[26] Upon their arrival, they adapted traditions carried over from the Holy Land, Babylonia , and the western Mediterranean to their new European environment. The Ashkenazi religious rite developed in cities such as Mainz, Worms, and Troyes . The eminent rishon from medieval France, Rashi, has had a significant influence on the interpretations of Judaism by Ashkenazim. In the late Middle Ages, due to widespread persecution, the majority of the Ashkenazi population steadily shifted eastward , moving out of the Holy Roman Empire into the areas that later became part of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth; these areas today comprise parts of present-day Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, and Ukraine.
Mizrahi Jews also known as Mizrahim or Mizrachi and alternatively referred to as Oriental Jews or Edot HaMizrach 'Communities of the East') , are a grouping of Jewish communities comprising those who remained in the Land of Israel and those who existed in diaspora throughout and around the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) from biblical times into the modern era. Mizrahi is a political sociological term that was coined with the creation of the State of Israel . It translates as "Easterner" in Hebrew and refers to Oriental Jews. In current usage , the term Mizrahi is almost exclusively applied to descendants of Jewish communities from the Middle East and North Africa ; in this classification are the descendants of Mashriqi Jews who had lived in Middle Eastern countries, such as Egyptian Jews, Iranian Jews, Iraqi Jews, Kurdish Jews, Lebanese Jews, Syrian Jews, Turkish Jews, and Yemenite Jews; as well as the descendants of Maghrebi Jews who had lived in North African countries, such as Algerian Jews, Libyan Jews, Moroccan Jews, and Tunisian Jews . These various Jewish communities were first officially grouped into a singular identifiable division during World War II, when they were distinctly outlined in the One Million Plan of the Jewish Agency for Israel, which detailed the methods by which Jews in diaspora were to be returned to the Land of Israel (then under the British Mandate of Palestine) after the Holocaust.[8] Mizrahi is also sometimes extended to include Jewish communities from Central Asia[9] and the Caucasus such as the Bukharan Jews from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, and the Mountain Jews from Dagestan and Azerbaijan. While these communities have traditionally spoken Judaeo-Iranian languages such as Juhuri and Bukharian, their descendants are also widely fluent in Russian due to those countries' existence as republics of the former Soviet Union.
